Cyber Forensic
Cyber forensics, also called computer or digital forensics, is the field focused on identifying, collecting, analyzing, and preserving digital evidence from electronic devices, computers, and networks. This evidence is used in legal investigations and proceedings, especially those involving cybercrime, such as hacking, fraud, data breaches, and other digital activities. The goal is to ensure that digital evidence is carefully handled so it remains intact and usable in court or for security analysis.
At its core, cyber forensics involves several stages. First, there is evidence preservation, which means that investigators need to ensure that digital data isn't tampered with or altered during the collection process. This often involves creating forensic images of devices, where exact copies of data are made so the original remains unchanged. The next stage is data recovery, which can involve retrieving deleted, encrypted, or damaged data from devices like computers, smartphones, and servers. Specialists in cyber forensics are often able to recover information that users might have tried to erase.
